Peter ReillyA classically trained boy treble, Peter says the highlight of this brief career was singing Pie Jesu from Gabrielle Faure’s Requiem directed by Peter Godfrey with the  Dorian Choir accompanied by the Auckland Philharmonia, recorded live to radio.

Under the guidance of Max Cryer, Peter underwent a rapid transformation from classical singer to pop artist. Happen Inn, Ray Columbus show and Town & Around performances culminated in a live performance at Western Spring’s Super Pop 70. Peter met and chatted with Prince Charles and Princess Anne that evening.   By 1972, Peter’s voice began the transformation to baritone which took quite a few years to settle down.

Fast forward to 1996. Peter moved to Waiheke Island founding Chocolate Fish (with Anu Grace) becoming a very popular choice for weddings, jazz festivals, birthdays and corporate events. They’ve been the opening act for the 2011/2013 biennial Sculpture of the Gulf  events, and recorded two live albums: Chocolate Fish – Live at Vino Vino (1997)  and Scandalicious (2012).

Chocolate Fish rebranded in 2013 as their Kiwi confection relative – The Buzz Bars – who continue to delight their customers with a range of talented musicians to create a jazzy latin feel for your next special event. or perhaps you prefer swinging blues or groovy pop? Whatever the preferred style, The Buzz Bars will have you moving and grooving.

Not restricted to Waiheke, The Buzz Bars are also a popular choice for events around Auckland and further afield.
